Sparrowfart Common is a community-focused arts coffee shop and recording studio run by Brooklyn musician and photographer Desmond White.  The center is fronted by a hang out area/cafe where artists can congregate and break during long sessions.  The studio is a mixed-use recording and arts space, combining a gallery and a fully-equipped performance space with grand piano, backline and recording/livestreaming capability.

Desmond initially set up the cafe and studio during the Covid-19 pandemic in order to live-stream jazz concerts and provide a space for musicians in which to perform during this difficult time. 30 full-length concerts were streamed, the majority of which can still be found here !

The center seeks to provide a venue and stop-in point for the local community, artistic and beyond, where artists of different disciplines can connect with other artists and the public alike.

Sustainability is an important part of the center’s mission. There are no single-use water bottles, to-go cups or plastic containers. We use cups from our partners at notNeutral, and sell in-store our customized re-usable to-go cups designed by MadeByFressko in Melbourne. We hope to expand this range to feature coffee accessories by other sustainability-minded companies soon !
